| historical background |
The Technische Nothilfe (TeNo) was established after World War I in Germany as an organization aimed at maintaining essential infrastructure during times of crisis. Initially focused on protecting public services such as energy, transport, and communications, it was gradually integrated into the structures of the Nazi regime from 1933 onward. Its development continued in the context leading up to World War II.
Between 1939 and 1945, the Technische Nothilfe played a key role in technical support for the war effort. Its members were responsible for maintaining and restoring critical infrastructure following damage from air raids or combat, particularly in electricity, water supply, and transportation systems. The organization operated both within Germany and in occupied territories, working alongside civil and military authorities to ensure continuity of essential services during WW2.
