Superb and extremely rare tunic belonging to a highly decorated SS-Sturmbannführer of the infantry; complete and original. Made of feldgrau (field-grey) Italian gabardine, it is highly representative of a Waffen-SS officers uniform. It features hand-embroidered collar tabscrafted from aluminum wire on a wool backingand a magnificent, hand-embroidered sleeve eagle, executed in aluminum wire and bullion with significant relief. The shoulder boards feature double piping. Ribbons for the Iron Cross and the War Merit Cross are present, along with numerous attachment loops for medalsincluding those for the prestigious German Cross on the right breast pocket. It bears the label of the military tailor F. Steiner of Augsburg. Inside the breast pocket, there is a dateNovember 1944though the owner's name was removed after 1945. A museum-quality piece in good to very good condition.
