| historical background |

The Model 35 helmet (M35) was introduced in 1935 as part of the rearmament of Germany and quickly became the standard issue helmet for the armed forces, including the Heer and the Luftwaffe. Recognizable by its clean lines, rolled edges, and separate ventilation bushings, it represents the refined evolution of earlier designs. From the early stages of World War II, the M35 established itself as a benchmark model, combining build quality, comfort, and a strong visual identity.

Produced from 1935 to 1940, the M35 saw widespread use across all theatres of war and within all branches, with variations linked to manufacturers, production batches, and service allocation. Surviving examples may display a range of features including shell markings, original decals (army, air force), factory or field-applied paint, and consistent signs of use. These elements provide a solid basis for identification and classification.

For collectors, the M35 is a cornerstone piece of German WWII militaria. Key points of interest include originality of configuration, condition and presence of decals, maker markings, and overall consistency. Complete, untouched helmets retaining their original finish are especially sought after, with value directly influenced by rarity, condition, and historical integrity.
