| historical background |
The Reichsministerium für die besetzten Ostgebiete (RMBO) was established in 1941 in Germany to administer the eastern territories occupied following the invasion of the Soviet Union. Placed under the authority of Alfred Rosenberg, the ministry played a central role in the civil, political, and economic management of these areas. It belongs to the historical context of World War II and the German expansion eastward.
The RMBO oversaw the administrative organization of the occupied regions, notably through local structures such as Reich commissariats. Its role included resource management, supervision of local populations, and implementation of policies defined by the regime. Its activity mainly took place in Eastern Europe during the conflict, within a framework distinct from purely military structures.
